Digital gifts

A digital gift is a file you upload once (a PDF, an audio recording, a video, a photo book) that partners receive as a private download link when they enter a tier. The file never travels by email; the donor clicks the link and the download starts.

The file library

Open Settings → Partners → File library and click Upload a file. Files up to 100 MB are accepted: PDF, ePub, MP3/M4A/WAV, MP4/MOV, ZIP, images, TXT, DOCX and PPTX. Each file shows how many benefits use it and how many links have been sent. Deleting a file breaks any links still out there, so replace a file rather than deleting it when you refresh a gift.

If a large upload fails with a message about not being switched on for this site yet, your DonorFinch workspace hasn't had direct uploads enabled. Files under about 4 MB always work; for anything bigger, contact support and we'll turn it on.

Attaching a file to a tier

On a tier, Add benefit → Digital download, pick the file and choose:

• Link lifetime (default 30 days). After that the link stops working and the donor's portal offers a fresh one.
• Download limit (default unlimited). Three or five is a sensible cap for something you'd rather not see shared widely.
• Email template: the message that carries the link. The built-in default is "A thank-you gift from {{org_name}}"; write your own under Settings → Templates and use {{file_name}}, {{download_url}} and {{expires_on}}.

What the donor gets

An email with a button that goes to a /d/… link on your DonorFinch address. The link is unique to that donor and that file, works until it expires or reaches its download limit, and isn't guessable. Donors can always sign in to their donor portal and find the gift under Your partnership, with a fresh link if the old one has run out.

Sending a gift by hand

On any donor's page, under Partner tier, choose Grant a benefit… to send a digital gift (or any other benefit) outside the normal rules: a thank-you to a volunteer, a replacement when someone lost the email. A hand-sent gift can be re-sent once per day.

Once only

Each benefit is sent once per donor per tier. If a partner drops a tier and comes back, they don't get the same e-book again. Anniversary benefits fire once per year on the day they entered the tier.

Good to know

• Links are not forwarded along: a donor who forwards the email gives away a link tied to their download count, nothing more.
• Download counts are shown on the file in the library and on the donor's page.
• Files live in encrypted object storage and are never public; the link is a signed redirect that expires in minutes.
