Comparison

DonorFinch vs Donorbox

Donorbox is the platform most small nonprofits already know: a donation form you embed, a free plan with a percentage fee, and a long list of paid add-ons. DonorFinch covers the same core job for less than half the fee and includes the accounting sync Donorbox sells separately. Here is where each one is the better fit.

The same gift

$100 on DonorFinch and on Donorbox

Card gift at Stripe's nonprofit rate, donor not covering fees.

DonorFinch

$96.00

you receive from a $100 card gift

1.5% + Stripe 2.2% + 30¢

What the donor is asked: “Add $4.15 to cover processing fees” — optional, goes to the fees so you net $100.00.

Donorbox

$94.55

you receive from a $100 card gift

2.95% + Stripe 2.2% + 30¢

What the donor is asked: Optional “cover processing fee” box. The platform fee always comes out of the gift.

Where Donorbox is the better choice

  • PayPal and Venmo at checkout, alongside Stripe. DonorFinch is Stripe-only (cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link, US bank transfers).
  • Event ticketing, peer-to-peer campaigns, memberships, crowdfunding pages and text-to-give (some as paid add-ons). DonorFinch does none of these on purpose.
  • Integrations with Salesforce, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Blackbaud and others (most are monthly add-ons).
  • Twelve years of track record and tens of thousands of customers.

Where DonorFinch is different

  • 1.5% per gift instead of 2.95% — on $50,000 a year of online gifts that is about $725 more in your bank account.
  • QuickBooks Online sync is included. Donorbox charges $50/month for it, and posts per-donor records; DonorFinch posts one deposit per Stripe payout with fees broken out, which is what a bookkeeper reconciles against.
  • The donor CRM — households, tags, custom fields, notes, tasks, offline gifts, imports — is included. Donorbox's full CRM is a paid tier.
  • Numbered PDF tax receipts, thank-you letters and ledger-checked year-end statements are standard, not add-ons.
  • No paid tiers, no feature gates. One plan, everything in it.

Our honest recommendation

Pick Donorbox if you need PayPal or Venmo, run ticketed events or peer-to-peer campaigns, or depend on one of its paid integrations. Pick DonorFinch if your fundraising is mainly a donation form on your website plus checks in the mail, and you want the lowest fee with the books kept in QuickBooks automatically.

Questions

Common questions

How do the fees compare on a $100 card gift?
With Stripe's nonprofit rate and the donor not covering fees: Donorbox Standard keeps $94.55 for your organization ($2.95 platform fee + $2.50 processing); DonorFinch keeps $96.00 ($1.50 + $2.50). When the donor covers fees, DonorFinch adds $4.15 so you net the full $100; Donorbox's cover-fee option covers processing only, so its 2.95% still comes out of the gift.
Can I move from Donorbox to DonorFinch?
Yes. Export your donors and donations from Donorbox as CSV and import them into DonorFinch; the importer matches columns and flags duplicates. Active recurring plans on Stripe can be migrated, since both platforms charge through your own Stripe account — email support and we will walk you through it.
Does DonorFinch have a Pro plan with lower fees?
No. 1.5% is the only rate, and it is already lower than Donorbox Pro's 1.75% at $150/month. If you process a very large volume, email us.
