Payments & Stripe

Connect Stripe

Link a new or existing Stripe account so donations are paid straight to your bank. Takes about ten minutes.

DonorFinch uses Stripe to process payments. Donations go directly into your organization's own Stripe account and from there to your bank. DonorFinch never holds your money.

Before you start

Have these handy; Stripe asks for them during setup:

  • Your organization's legal name, address and EIN
  • The name, date of birth and last four SSN digits of a person who represents the organization (Stripe requires this for identity checks)
  • Your bank account and routing numbers for payouts

Connect

  1. Open Settings → Payments.
  2. Choose one:
    • Set up a new Stripe account if you don't have one. We pre-fill the account as a nonprofit; Stripe then walks you through its own onboarding pages.
    • I already have a Stripe account if your organization uses Stripe already. You'll sign in to Stripe and approve the connection.
  3. Finish Stripe's steps and you'll be sent back to DonorFinch.

Check the status

Back on Settings → Payments you'll see two badges:

  • Accepting donations (green) means cards can be charged. Setup incomplete (amber) means Stripe still needs something; the page lists what, in plain English (for example "Bank account for payouts"), with a Continue setup on Stripe button.
  • Payouts on means Stripe can send money to your bank. Payouts pending means a bank detail or verification is still outstanding.

Use Refresh status after you finish anything on Stripe's side.

Below the status you'll find the wallets panel. DonorFinch registers its domain with Stripe automatically so these can appear on your form; the panel shows each as Ready, Not verified or Unknown. Click Check wallet status if anything looks off. Wallets only show for donors whose device supports them.

What you'll see in Stripe

Each online gift appears in your Stripe dashboard as a payment with two fees taken out: Stripe's processing fee and DonorFinch's platform fee (1.2%). Payout timing follows your Stripe account's payout schedule, which you control in Stripe. Read Payouts and your Stripe account for the details.

Disconnecting

Disconnect on the Payments page stops new online donations until you connect again. Past gifts, receipts and reports are kept.
