The audit log

Every change to money, donors, settings and team is recorded with who, what and when. Here's how to read it.

Settings → Audit log lists significant actions in your organization, newest first. Owners, Admins and Finance can view it. Entries can't be edited or deleted by anyone, including DonorFinch staff.

What's recorded

  • Money: gifts recorded or edited, refunds, recurring plan changes (pause, amount, cancel), card-update links sent, deposit batches, QuickBooks syncs.
  • Donors: created, edited, archived, merged-by-import, imports committed, custom fields and tags changed.
  • Receipts and statements: resent, voided, year-end runs.
  • Forms and website: forms created or published, site keys created or revoked, allowed websites changed.
  • Team and settings: invitations, role changes, permission overrides, removals, organization settings, Stripe connect/disconnect.
  • Support: tickets opened from inside the app.

Routine reads (someone viewing a donor) are not logged.

Each entry shows

  • When, in your organization's time zone
  • Who: the team member, or the system for automated actions (a scheduled recurring charge, an event from Stripe), or the donor for self-service changes in the portal
  • What: the action and the record it touched
  • Details: the relevant values (an amount, a role, a reason)

Why it matters

Auditors ask "who can issue refunds, and who did?" The matrix in Roles and permissions answers the first; the audit log answers the second.
